Safety and privacy, these are the main reasons why you would want to get the AnchorFree-developed VPN client Hotspot Shield. It secures your internet connection, hides your IP address, and protects your from known malware-spreading sites. With Hotspot Shield by your side, you can rest secure that all the data you transmit is HTTPS secure, that no third party can view your IP address, and that no malicious site will fool you.

Hotspot Shield is available for multiple platforms. You can use it on your Windows XP, Vista, or 7-powered PC, on your Mac OS X machine, and on your iOS or Android-powered smartphone. Getting the application up and running on your PC is a simple task: download a 4.9MB, run it, click through the simple setup wizard. It must be mentioned here that the setup wizard offers to install Hotspot Shield in one of several supported languages and it also offers to install the Hotspot Shield Community Toolbar.

On Hotspot Shield’s blue interface there’s a green bar that shows the status of your connection; to test it, hit the conveniently placed “Test Protection” button in the right hand side. Speaking about the right hand side, in the lower corner there are buttons for accessing the settings menu, a share function, and a FAQ.

Hotspot Shield creates a virtual private network (VPN for short) to which you can connect and thus securely and anonymously surf the web. All the data you transmit while Hotspot Shield is running is secured, meaning that snoopers cannot see what you’re sending and receiving; it’s like having HTTPS turned on all sites, at all times. While Hotspot Shield is activated, it also hides away your IP, meaning you have the privacy to surf the web without being identified by your IP. And last but not least, while Hotspot Shield is running, it protects you from malicious sites – that would be illegal or phishing sites, malware-spreading sites, infected sites, spam sites and content farms. Hotspot Shield uses a database of more than 3.5 million known or suspected malware sites to protect you.

There are two Hotspot Shield editions to choose from: a Free, ad-supported version, and an Elite, paid version that you can try for an evaluation period of 7 days. Besides better malware protection, the Elite version offers dedicated support, a dedicated network, and does not display any ads.

Hotspot Shield is a must have for anyone who’s looking for security and privacy for their web browsing sessions.

Support for multiple platforms and for multiple languages is provided. There’s a Free and an Elite version to choose from. Hotspot Shield secures your connection, hides your IP, and protects against malicious sites.
